Car parking
Recently, some cars
have been blocked in at the car park and this has caused some upset.
Starting shortly, a new system will be trialled whereby cards can be placed
in the car with a name and mobile number so that those who are blocked can
contact the person and arrange a move.
Volunteers Needed!!!
The club are always looking for additional help in almost every area such as
sponsorship, social, bar etc. If you can help in any way at all, or have a
skill that you think could be used to benefit the club, please let Merv or
anyone on the committee know. We want to build on the success of the open
evening where plenty of good suggestions were made.

Our popular Car Boot Sales will be returning for the summer soon. More

Grounds Improvement -
February 2013
On Saturday 9th
February Raleigh Park saw the first steps towards enhancing the car park
areas. The following took place:
Front car park - widening/forming easier access to the car park, removal of
the wire mesh fence in preparation for a new timber fence. The car park area
was cleared of grass & weeds in preparation towards planting borders and new
surfacing lining and designated disabled parking bays later this year.
Rear car park area - The metal waste items were disposed of and the grass
and weeds were cleared to start the formation of bunds. The proposed works
due later during this year will involve improved footpaths/new
gates/segregated vehicle and pedestrian access/grounds maintenance area/dedicated ambulance access.

Our thanks go to the following people for their help: Russ Chilton, Carl
Cartwright & Mini Digger, Sam Marles & JCB, Dave Josey, Ian Skinner and
Simon Lawrence. (Thanks also to Keren, John and Aaron Annandale for
supplying food and drinks to the workforce!)
A special thanks goes to the following companies for assisting with
supplying plant & waste skips FOC to make the works much easier!
Advanced Waste Services for supplying the waste skip: (01202) 870833
- Krysia Linter
Speedy Hire for supplying the compactor plate: (01392) 277333 - Julian Blake
And finally a very special thanks must go to our to sponsor Sam Marles Plant
Hire: (07970)549364 - Sam Marles. Sam and his JCB made much of the work effortless with his new
JCB 4CX ECO!.
The works have made a start to the improvement plan but please bear with us
if it looks like a building site at times. We hope you will see a noticeable
improvement over the future months and we will endeavour to complete the
works as quickly as possible!
The next working party will be in March and we would appreciate anyone with
spare/free hard-core and timber road sleepers/posts for the next area of
works. Please contact Simon Lawrence on 07973 243513 or via email:

RFU visit to Withycombe
Raleigh Park welcomed
representatives from the RFU with their film cameras on Sunday 20th March
2011.
Andy
Melrose and Steve Harland, RFU Referee Training and Development Officers
came to Withycombe on Sunday to film the clubs Mini/Midi referees in action.
This was a follow-up to a course held at the club in July 2010 in which 9
members qualified as referees for junior rugby. The new RFU course
originally used Withycombe as "guinea pigs" to trial the course content last
summer. Contemporary video footage of the referees in action was required to
complement the new course hence the return visit. So, in the future as the
RFU go around the country running the course, the players and referees of
the Junior Section at Withycombe RFC will feature in the presentation. A
welcomed opportunity to help the RFU and a great national profile raiser for
us.
Tag Rugby
Mark Wilkinson has organised Tag
Rugby for aged 16+ male & females on Tuesday evenings at 7pm. This is
just for fun and no experience is necessary – all enquiries to Mark on

Withycombe Sportsmans Dinner
Success
Dave Trick
who played for Bath and England was the guest speaker at Withycombe
Sportman’s Dinner last Friday.
Speaking to 120 guests, Dave entertained his audience with anecdotes about
his career, including being the only international to have drunk a can of
lager and smoked a cigarette during an International match against
Australia. Something to do with the thick fog at the time.
A three course dinner was served by the excellent Eat with England’s and
comedian/ compare Tank Sherman provided the entertainment and conducted a
Sports auction.
Withycombe RFC would like to thank John Passmore for organising the evening.
Withycombe RFC Juniors big thank
you to Exmouth Lions Club.
On Sunday 19th September
Exmouth Lions Club made a very welcome visit to Raleigh Park during Junior
training to make a kind donation of 20 new size 3 Kooga rugby balls to the
clubs ever expanding youth section (along with some complementary "team
building" paint ball tickets.... for the adults !)
Next week sees a return to action for the youngest Withies (U7, U8 & U9s) in
their first competitive fixture of the season away to Honiton.

Pictured are U9s Coach Richard Blyth along with a selection of Withy Juniors
from the U7s, U8s and U9 teams receiving new training balls from Eve Oakman,
President of Exmouth Lions Club.
New Gallery
The Gallery is now live and it has lots of fantastic pictures of the U7s and
U8s. More photos will be added soon so do have a look at the
Gallery Page.
Withycombe RFC Kit Shop!
The club has a new Kit Shop. A selection of WRFC Logo kit is now available.
Please visit the Kit Shop
to see what's on offer.
Volunteers Needed!!!
Please help! To run
successful events, we need people to attend and to help out. The more people
that volunteer, the less the workload.
We currently require:
+ One or more people to organise the kitchen rota on match days.
+ Volunteers to serve food on match days.
+ People to collect money, direct cars, serve food etc at the car boot
sales.
+ Groups of 4 people to assist in the running of the bingo i.e. caller,
cashier and refreshments.
If you are able to assist at the club in any of the roles mentioned above,
please do get in touch with Becky Skinner on
01395 263423 or email her at
becky.skinner@withycomberugby.co.uk.
Sponsorship
As you’re probably aware, thanks to the dedication of the coaches and
support of the club, Withycombe RFC has been extremely successful in recent
years in recruiting boys and girls to the club and now boasts a thriving
youth section with a number of youth teams in various age groups. To
continue the good work and provide the children with the facilities, kit and
training equipment they deserve requires ongoing funding. Whilst membership
subscriptions go some way towards this, we are always looking for new
opportunities to raise money.
Hopefully this is where you can help.
Please read here for further information.
New! Tag Rugby for Girls
Tag is a fun and exciting non contact form of rugby. Girls aged 9 and
above are invited to come along and enjoy the game! For more details contact
either Alan Humphry (07977 567188) or Iain Cooper (07766 443412).
Withycombe RFC - Juniors Committee
A fledgling Junior Section has existed at the Club since 2006 when an U11s
team was formed. Next season we will be running teams at the following
levels: U15s, U9s, U8s, U7s. We also hope to run teams at U10s and
U12s levels subject to finding suitable coaches.
WRFC’s long term aim is to develop a Junior/Youth Section fulfilling age
groups from U7s all the way up to U16s, followed by a colts team(s)
thereafter. To effectively manage the development of this Junior/Youth
Section it is timely that we, the Club and all interested
parents/guardians/coaches formally organise ourselves to provide the
necessary level of support to the various age groups.
Whether you have previous
connections with WRFC or are a relative newcomer we have a fantastic
opportunity to build something here and continue the good work already being
done at the Club. The long term development of a Junior/Youth Section
at Withycombe Rugby Football Club can only help further promote the Club in
the local community. We want to offer children of all ages the chance to
come and enjoy the sport of rugby and all that it has to offer within a
friendly, family rugby club.
